College for the Student with ADHD or LD
March 17, 2021When School Feels Like Home
March 30, 2021After a challenging school year with Covid protocols and limits on social interactions, students, parents and teachers are anticipating a break during the summer months. Adventures in Summer Learning, Springer’s 4-week structured academic program, is back for its 29th Summer! We look forward to welcoming students from the tristate who have struggled in some aspect of school, or those who simply need to solidify gains made this school year.
The 4-week morning program provides a welcoming, safe environment for the struggling student. Our teachers are specialists in educating diverse learners while making learning fun. Students entering grades 1 through 6 will develop an understanding of themselves as learners and increase their confidence as they experience carefully researched direct instruction in the areas of reading, math and written expression. Challenge by Choice, a unique part of the morning program, develops the cooperative problem solving skills of students as they engage in physical activity and games with peers in a noncompetitive environment.
During the last week of Adventures there is time for parents to meet with the teaching team and receive a brief written report of their child’s accomplishments with suggestions for strategies and supports that will be helpful during the upcoming academic year. Parents of previous Adventures campers have expressed delight at their child’s increased confidence as a learner, in addition to surprise at their student’s willingness to come every day, even though it is summer!!
New this Summer: A Social Skills Group for students entering grades 4 and 5 will be led by a Counselor and Psychologist from Springer’s faculty. This will take place June 21- July 2 from 1:00-2:30 each day. Unique to this program is a workshop for parents, hearing from the instructors, on how to facilitate social skill growth for their child. For more information about the Social Skills Group, please email Erin Fiorito at .
For students entering grades 7 and 8, Math Essentials and Improving Writing Skills will again be offered for 2 weeks. At the end of two weeks, parents will have the opportunity to view their student’s work and meet with the teacher.
Fun With Friends is our 4-week afternoon extended day camp experience for students who need a longer day until 4 pm. Students have a supervised lunch followed by crafts, art projects, games, free time on the playground and other activities determined with the group.
We look forward to welcoming you and your student to our exceptional “Adventures in Summer Learning.” Let us help you and your child understand their unique strengths and needs as a learner.
