ADHD and Executive Functioning
February 11, 2021“Springer Was the Pandemic’s Silver Lining”
February 23, 2021Are you one of those people who counts down the days until the next season? Well just in case you were wondering, we have one hundred or so days until summer! While many of our usual plans have changed, it just means we have to get creative on ways to keep busy.
Despite the different perspectives we bring, summer programs have tons of benefits for students. Summer programs help to build social, emotional, and critical thinking skills. Another important factor in summer programming is that it helps promote independence. In school-age students, it is important for them to gain a sense of autonomy and discover their voice. Through meeting, planning, and executing activities with their peers, they can do just that!
Unfortunately, students who struggle with reading, writing, and math are more likely to lose those skills during summer break, therefore a summer program to hold onto those skills can be a great solution to the summer and/or COVID slide.
Here at Springer, we offer a unique approach to the traditional summer camp - Adventures in Summer Learning! Springer’s Summer Learning program consists of four weeks of learning for students entering grades 1-6. Classes are offered in Reading, Writing, Math. We also offer an empowering program called Challenge By Choice, in which problem solving techniques are developed through physical activities! Additionally, Springer also offers “Fun with Friends” which is an extension of the morning program (1:00-4:00 pm) for students to engage in crafts and games. For older students, those entering grades 6-8, Springer offers two-week courses in Math Essentials and Improving Writing Skills. All courses are taught by Springer trained professionals. Each caring professional has a deep understanding of students' different learning styles and strengths and are able to provide targeted strategies for success.
Perhaps one of the biggest advantages to Springer’s summer programs is that they help students establish skills that can be utilized and built upon throughout their academic years. Strengthening communication skills, enhancing critical thinking, and maintaining positive relationships are just a few of the great things to come out of summer camps and programs, and former Springer summer program parents would agree. When asked what they liked best about the Adventures in Summer Learning program, one parent responded, ”It was a transformative experience for my son!” while another stated, “All of it!” That’s some powerful testimonial!
We hope that you can take advantage of Springer’s Adventures in Summer Learning 2021 and look forward to seeing you soon! If you’d like more information visit www.springer-ld.org/summer or click HERE to apply.
