DE-STRESS in 2025
January 10, 2025We are quickly approaching our biggest two adult-education events of the year: Springer’s Empowered Learning Night for parents (Feb. 13) the the all-day Empowered Learner Conference for professionals (Feb 14).
I am super excited to be bringing together educators and professionals from our community to talk about how mindset shapes success for students. Parents, don’t feel left out- you, too, have the opportunity to hear from Jared Cooney Horvath, one of our keynote speakers, the evening before at Empowered Learner Night! At this short 2-hour session, Dr. Horvath takes us on A Tour Through Your Child's Brain, as he explains how we can best use this knowledge to support our students. (This session will be impactful for parents and educators!)
As I said in my previous post, we are all teachers. Some teach for a living, some are volunteer coaches, and others sign up for the lifetime career of parenting. Regardless of your teaching role, we all want and need to be effective in our interactions.
After reading Jared Cooney Horvath’s book Stop Talking, Start Influencing, I’ve reflected on how his insights relate to the conference’s focus on mindset. In order to be effective teachers, we have to make connections stick and connect on an emotional level. Influence becomes more powerful when we can empathize with our students’ needs, feelings and motivations. We can positively influence others by understanding how to engage them, adapt to their needs, and then guide them in the right direction. And, we all have so much more to learn about doing this effectively for our students!
Think of teaching like being the captain of a ship--the captain knows where they’re headed, how to get them there, and how to navigate when the seas get rough. Dr. Horvath gives practical tools for how we can do is for our students.
All of us teachers have something valuable to share and we can, and should, invite others to see it for themselves. When we have a mindset of empathy, growth, action, and confidence, we can make genuine connections. These connections have the power to transform our teaching into meaningful and influential exchanges.
Our two keynote speakers at The Empowered Learner Conference: Shaping Success Through Mindset are well known for their abilities to positively influence their audiences and create mindsets that empower learners of all kinds! The Empowered Learner Conference and Empowered Learner Night are just three weeks away. I hope you’ll join me and many others from across the region for the Parent Night on February 13 or the the Empowered Learner Conference on February 14 and experience how success is shaped through mindset!
