For students with ADHD, dyslexia and challenges presented by learning differences, school can be a negative experience. Why?
Some may not be aware of their learning profile yet. Many are trying to fit into a learning system that wasn’t designed for them. In addition, learning differences also present social challenges. These difficulties can be exasperated when students feel like they are the only one who struggles.
Finding support is essential. Parents can build knowledge around their child’s challenges through resources like Child Mind Institute, Understood.org, and The Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity. Locally, Springer offers workshops throughout the year to help parents increase their understanding and better support their children.
Students can also become empowered by learning to recognize and appreciate their own strengths and also learn about their challenges and build strategies to address them.
