Answering the Call
December 29, 2022Learning to Study
January 17, 2023We have spent much of this year studying the feasibility of a high school at Springer.
Many of our current students are ready to launch from Springer at different times throughout their educational career and successfully do so by enrolling in independent and public schools across the city. However, we know that some of our students and families have been interested in a high school Springer experience. We are excited to announce the next step in that study: We will be opening a 9th grade program in the 2023-24 school year!
“Why an LD High School?” There are so many reasons! This 9th grade program will be unlike anything currently offered in our region.
- With small class sizes and strong research based interventions, Springer 9th grade will be a program designed to meet the individual needs of students.
- Academic courses will be designed to meet students needs with embedded supports, accommodations and hands-on learning activities. Students will not have to be pulled out in order to receive services.
- Students will have opportunities to participate in cocurricular activities, clubs and sports. Because of the small size, everyone will have a chance to participate.
- Students will experience success, leading to improved confidence, risk-taking and self-advocacy.
- Executive functioning skills will be explicitly taught to students and students will learn how to become self-sufficient in time management, organization and work completion.
- Students and families will engage in college and career exploration and planning. Staff will help families, every step of the way, to find the best fit for their child’s next steps.
- Students and families will have a voice in the creation and development of this exciting new program. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to craft a program designed especially for OUR kids!
A Springer 9th grade will be a life changing experience for many students. We know our students will have opportunities for growth and leadership, will feel a sense of community and belonging, and will gain a sense of confidence in ways they could not in a typical school setting.
Springer is offering an open house/walk-through on January 19th from 3:00-4:30. Potential 9th grade students and families are all encouraged to come see how the program will be structured, view space renditions, and explore the Springer programming. No sign up required or registration is required.
Great things are happening here at Springer! Go Eagles!
