Children with ADHD are accident-prone (Centers for Disease Control) and have a tendency to act without thinking. This can be a lethal combination! In the summer children are home more, sometimes under the supervision of a babysitter. Look around your house now to get ready for summer.
Reduce Temptation:
Keep firearms unloaded and locked up when you are not home. Every child knows the location of guns in the home – don’t underestimate the curiosity of a child/teenager!
Store the gas for the lawnmower in a secure location. There is an increase in accidents involving children and gasoline in the summer.
If you store adult beverages in the garage on in the basement rec room, move it to your closet or lock it up!
Store car keys in a secure location to prevent unauthorized rides to get ice cream. Keep your car locked, even when it is in the garage!
If there is a pint sized “do it yourselfer” in the house, make sure that power tools or sharp tools are locked in a closet or storage area.
If you have an exit through the basement, install a device that sounds a tone when the door is opened. Young “Christopher Columbus” will need to wait for permission to leave the house.
