Parent Program Offerings for the 2017- 2018 School Year

Executive Function: Developing Habits at Home

Executive Function includes the skills that allow us to plan, execute and complete tasks, and to think before acting or speaking. Struggling students and students with learning disabilities and ADHD typically present with deficits in Executive Function. This program emphasizes practical strategies that parents can begin using tomorrow. Topics include leaving on time in the morning with the necessities, the use of checklists, schedules and routine to promote organization, eliciting cooperation, and uncovering what will motivate your child. The program can be modified to fit your schedule and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Study Skills: Help Your Child Work Smarter

Study skills are not typically taught in school. This program provides tips for parents including helping your student think and plan first before starting homework, strategies for math homework, reading comprehension, studying from a text book, completing writing assignments, and organizing projects. The program can be modified to fit your schedule and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Easing the Tension: Guiding Children Past Emotions to Learn More Effectively

Does your child become easily frustrated or impatient at home or at school, causing tears and meltdowns? Are you concerned about her ability to cope with challenging situations? Do you spend more of your time trying to get your child to complete a task than it actually takes once he does it? Your child’s behavior may be due to stress and/or anxiety. This session will help parents tease out the causes of these behaviors and learn practical coping strategies for getting their children past these emotional blocks related to school, social relationships, and extracurricular interests.

Each program can be modified to fit your schedule and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.  If your school/district is interested in hosting a Springer parent program, contact us at 513-871-6080, ext. 402, or by email at center@springer-ld.org.
